About Jason Hiak
Math is an uphill battle for most children. Yet for some, it’s easy breezy. Whatever learning curve a student may have, one thing is for sure: mastering Math is not impossible. Just ask Mr Hiak Tai Keat, an alumnus from Nanyang Technological University with a Master’s at Manchester Business School, and is a Chartered Accountant, whose number skills have led him to design a Math programme that zero in on applications and problem-solving. Even if the city-state is dotted with learning centres offering different Math programmes, none specializes in application and problem solving than the tailored programme at Matrix Math. While others can provide arithmetic training, it’s only at Matrix Math where analysis takes centre stage. Developed in accordance with the latest MOE syllabus, Matrix Math workbooks are specially designed for students to systematically learn the methodologies in tackling heuristic and complex word problems. Matrix Math started operations in 2009 wherein children in kindergarten can sign up for Matrix Math lessons. “Learn. Revise. Remember,” notes Mr Hiak Tai Keat, who is also known as Jason by most parents and students, “Our system is in the program that allows us to identify a child’s areas of weakness. We can prepare students to grow globally, as our programme is repeatable and scalable.” Veering away from the notion that math is complex and the most challenging subject in school, Matrix Math – unique in Singapore – is an integrated approach in a child’s math learning journey from aged 4 to 12 years. By offering a refreshing, systematic and visual manner, children are inclined to get more excited to attend math classes and solve problems head high. With a programme that cuts across concepts, topics and methods, Matrix Math also prides itself on its happy team of teachers. Although finding the right teachers proved difficult at first, where candidates have to undergo mathematical tests, and must have experience as full-time teachers, Matrix Math instructors are armed with such proficiency skills and passion that make the learning experience more meaningful. Branching out in neighbouring countries such as The Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand, Matrix Math is poised to endow students with its enriching programmes in years to come. It continues to be the name entrusted by parents in fulfilling the potentials of students by empowering children and preparing them to be among the best in the world. “Learn. Revise. Remember”
