Aims of Syllabus

The Primary Mathematics Syllabus aims to enable all students to:

  • acquire mathematical concepts and skills for everyday use and continuous learning in mathematics;
  • develop thinking, reasoning, communication, application and metacognitive skills through a mathematical approach to problem-solving; and
  • build confidence and foster interest in mathematics

What is covered in this lesson?

This lesson will focus on the fundamentals of whole numbers. This lesson is intended to lay the foundation skills needed for subsequent problem-solving questions.

Areas covered are:

  1. Number notations and place values
  2. Operations – additions and subtractions
  3. Operations – multiplications and divisions
  4. Estimations and approximations

Who is suitable to take this course?

  • 10 years old
  • Singapore – Primary 4
  • Malaysia – Form 4
  • American system – Grade 4
  • UK system – Year 4

We do not encourage students to skip lessons. In order to fully benefit from the practices, it is important that students follow the sequence of the lessons prescribed.
