One of the earliest heuristic concepts a 7 years old will learn is the “Part and whole” concept. In upper primary, “Part and whole” concepts will develop to involve fractions and percentages. Thus, a systematic learning structure, which encompasses the basic building blocks of heuristic problem solving skills is important.
For lower primary, the key to solving a “Part and whole” problem sum is by identifying the two main portions, the “part” and the “whole”; Identifying what the question is asking for, the “Part” or the “whole”?
